esther, 161186We feel lonely, sometimes to the point of tears, but we don’t let those tears come because we are not supposed to cry. Or how we feel a surge of love for a partner but we don’t say anything because we’re frozen with the fear of what those words might do to the relationship. -Mitch Albom My tweets

2nd day! We woke up really early and wanted to swim but it was raining =\ so here's the view from our villa! In the distance is the beach! =) The swimmin pool at our doorstep! Theres no one swimming there cos it was drizzling. Our 3 bedroom villa with Chop at the door! Us before we checked out! We headed to the Coffee Shop which is essentially the breakfast restaurant for our complimentary brekkie! The crowd and the buffet line. The buffet line is not bad if you like bread, there is also omelette and porridge cereal etc. Heres wot I got!, Fresh milk, Guava juice, beehoon, sausage, veggie, overly sweet bread pudding and omelette! =) We were all full to the brim! Then we took a 90min drive to the town at Tanjong Pinang, the biggest town in Bintan and heres the sad looking 2 storey shopping center which in my opinion, is not even half as good as good ol' chinatown shopping center. Chop and Pit each got a watch while the rest looked on. Riding is still the primary mode of transport in Bintan as the bus is infrequent and does not start if there are less than 10 passengers! Thats why I <3 SBS. 2nd disappointing mall. Ramayana, which is similar to Jusco. We bought countless bottles of the Mandi Lulur scrub after yesterday's wonderful scrubbing experience and we were famished so we got corn cup from a random booth! Its not obvious in the pix but they added condensed milk in the corn cup apart from butter! Initially I thought it was gonna be overly sweet but it turned out really yummy! =) Its a good suggestion to the pasar malam sellers! The unknown restaurant we had our last meal in Bintan! Our driver recommended this place, he prob got commission or sth =) Local Keropok! The prawn cracker is nice! 4 servings of rice in banana leaves Kampung Chicken! The chicken there are all skinner than those we have in singapore but they all tasted not bad! I <3 anything with crumbs! =) Sambal Pentai! This is my fave! We hardly get this dish in Singapore and according to Pit, pentai is expensive but its really good for clearing the toxins in the body! Fried Tofu with filling! Here's the filling inside! Although its nice and crispy but I just didnt like the combination of this. Calamari! This is their small portion and its really alot! Seafood must be cheap in Bintan! Fruits! =) The entire meal cost us approx S$30 in total and we couldnt finish so we dapaoed for the driver. The meal is exclusive of the Beer. We bought the beer from duty free in SG ferry terminal before we left. Its a tip cos alcohol is ex in Bintan! Then it was journey back to the ferry terminal! This 'custom' like thingy separates the Singapore Owned Investments in Bintan which is the resort side vs the locals side of Bintan. Its a stark difference between inside the custom and outside. The Inside is very neat, clean with well manicured grass but the outside is mud, uneven roads and zinc houses. Finally after 90mins again, we are back to the ferry terminal with nth to do! We were scared we missed the ferry! The deli on the ferry! The business is brisk cos it was dinner time and quite a handful of people bought food despite the ridiculous markup. The 4 happy campers! Cant wait for the next trip! We hope to go either Koh Samui, Krabi or even Langkawi! =) Sunday, August 15, 2010
After the shopping, Aura Spa personnel even provide service to send us back to our hotel! It was close to evening time by the time we dally and check-in =) Interesting overhead cables we saw! I have no idea why there's the sumatra tiger there! And we squeezed into the back of the buggy to be brought to our villa! The entrance to our 3 bedroom villa! We got a free upgrade! But that didnt really mean anything to us cos we only have 4 ppl anyway. The huge living room! The fully equipped kitchen, which is really good! The bedroom that we never sleep in. Chop & Pit's room! Me and bestie's room! We stayed at the Banyu Biru Villa which is part of the Nirwana Group of Hotels After settling in, we called for the buggy again and came out to stroll in the main hotel area! Giant Snake & Ladders anyone? I so dunno how to play english chess. Camwhoring again at the hotel lobby while waiting for the bus to bring us around the resort! Theres nth much to see in the dark, there's an activity area which we are not interested in and a Kelong. Most of the activity within the resort are overpriced tho'. Dejectedly we return to our villa and had instand noodles we brought over! I brought 5 packets in case there wasnt enough but turns out that chop and pit hardly ate any and there's a good 2 packets thats wasted! Bestie trying to open the can of campbell soup with a swiss army knife. We all totally didnt know how to use the swiss army knife we had to call for housekeeping to help us open the can. Our yummy noodles with luncheon meat and hotdog! A real heartwarming and hearty meal! =) Saturday, August 14, 2010
We did some research prior to going and noted that Aura Spa is one of the more value for money spa as per their motto! so we were really excited when we saw the Aura Spa poster at the ferry terminal, we left our baggage at the Nirwana Resort booth to be sent back to the hotel and got the hotel staff to help us call Aura to make appointment. Within 10mins, the Aura staff arrived to fetch us there! Its 2 pax per room and here's the not very big room! The hard bed, sarong and towel =) Each double room is only divided by wall boards so we are not allowed to raise our volume when we speak. bestie and i got told off to keep our voices down =\ As you can see the top part is hollow. The yummy ginger tea at the end of the spa! We did the Bintan Break spa package which lasted 2hr30mins consisting of Massage, Scrub (my fave part), Suana and Lotion. The massage is not bad. I've not been a great fan of massages anyway cos i'm super ticklish. The scrub is different from the one I had in BKK, in Bintan, they used Mandi Lulur scrub which has a whitening effect. Then suana was in an high tech cubicle using Infra radiation. The lotion part was a letdown cos its just like us putting lotion on ourselves ||-_- I'd love to have the scrub anytime! Its S$22 for the scrub only and S$60 for the Bintan Break Spa Package we did. If you patronize the spa, they have free transport to bring you to Pasar Ole Ole which is just 5 mins away! wishing well in pasar ole ole. Interesting bird nest! I peeped and there is indeed a bird inside! =) One of the many handicraft shop. Pasar Ole Ole is such a letdown, there are no locals apart from the shop people and this place is definitely a tourist trap! We camwhored again and left after buying some tourisy keropok for friends and families back home. Then we are back to the spa area for lunch/dinner cos they have this Aura Restaurant! The beautiful weather and beautiful sky! Interesting table mat! Sweet Corn soup! This is really sweet! Overfried fries Spicy seafood beehoon! This is nice! =) I am bias and I love beehoon! My Ayam Penyet was such a letdown. I tot ayam penyet is an indonesian dish so I had super high expectations of it and sadly the chicken did not come with any crumbs or wot. I prefer Lucky Plaza's Ayam Penyet anytime! Hotplate tofu! This is really nice! I <3 this dish. I can juz survive on this and plain rice. =) Beef Horfun. Apparently its not very nice. Tom Yam soup? We have no idea wot soup this is but it tasted like tom yam soup but again, why is corn in a tom yam soup? My Icelemon tea! Their super spicy Teh Halia! We opted to pay in Rupiah and boy, the Rupiah comes in such huge denominations and we spent quite a bit of time counting the zeros. After paying, we went to this mama shop across the street to get tibits! Look at the variety of the coffee powder sachets they have! And we bot Yakult! I <3 Yakult! Bestie with the super enthuiastic Aura staff! For information or reservation on the spa, go to http://www.auraspabintan.com/ Labels: bintan, food, spa, travel |
