esther, 161186We feel lonely, sometimes to the point of tears, but we don’t let those tears come because we are not supposed to cry. Or how we feel a surge of love for a partner but we don’t say anything because we’re frozen with the fear of what those words might do to the relationship. -Mitch Albom

Day 4: A day set aside for sightseeing! Bright and sunny we arose and cabbed to Wat Pho. The biggest temple in Bangkok also known as the Royal Temple! The first temple nearest to the entrance house one of the biggest sleeping buddhas in the world world! This statue is so magnificant in real life that this camera was nt able to capture the full glory of it. the feet is made entirely of mother of pearls! As you walk alone the sleeping buddha, you will hear those clinking sound and we were wondering wot it was and we saw this! for 20 baht we gt a cup of shillings to donate to this pots =) It is really fun but there are so many of this pots that after a while i got confused and messed up my counts haha. Even though it is a Thai temple, there are plenty of these chinese guards around the temple grounds. They were actually gifts from China in the past to the Kings of Thailand and the King have kindly donated the gifts to the Royal Temple. All of them dates back to several centuries back! There were rows and rows of Buddha statues around the temple. If you actually take a closer look, some of them look bright and gold like the one in the foreground while some others look a little worse for wear. It is not that the temple did not take good care of them, but The buddhas actually houses urns for families who pay for them, thus those families will also have to pay a nominal fee for the upkeep of the Buddha statues. Those that are worse for wear indicates that the particular family may not have been spending enough. This is the Royal Temple in Wat Pho and everyone have to be appropriately dressed to enter. The King of Thailand still come to this Royal Temple to pay his respects once a year. Wat Pho in the olden times was actually a school cum temple. Ancient Medicine as well as massage techniques were taught on the temple grounds. Right up till today, massages are available for people who are weary after walking an entire morning. On the sprawling ground also house a primary school and we got to see the kids rush out to play during recess! They are so adorable! =)) Wat Pho is a typical tourist trap with lots of vendors selling drinks outside the temple at exorbitant prices so we walked a little bit further to get our tummies filled. Its a nondescript roadside stall where you only see locals. This cai fan only costed us less than S$2. but its of so yummy!!! Its the chinese style LorBak my fave! =) We hired a guide to intro us the temple grounds earlier. Both P and I felt that the guide is very good. In fact it will be more beneficial to have a guide instead of walking aimlessly yourself. You will not appreciate the place as much! The guide was really helpful and even brought us to a sampan ride around the river! Me with the Bread to fish the fishes later! =)) Before we jet off, a pix on the pier with Wat Arun, another famous temple in the vicinity for the huge pagoda! Along the river ride, we got to see the kelongs of the thai people. an komodo dragon; which is not unusual for them apparently. And then we stopped to feed the fishes outside a temple along the river! Look at how big and how many of them there are! Its not that those ppl living along the river do not fish, but its nt appropriate in front of the temple as the temple is holy ground. As such, there are a big school of fish there! Its just really another day in life for them. The thais area always every so friendly and seemingly worry free in life! A bunch of boys swimming in the river presumably after school =) Even though this is not the real famous floating market, there are still some friendly ladies selling local souvenirs =) P and I on the sampan =) And here we are in the Grand Palace. On the left is a demon by nature, but according to our guide, on temple grounds, all demons will be converted to of good natured and become guardian of the temple. A model of Angkor Wat on the temple ground. In the olden days, Cambodia used to be part of Thailand and thats why they have a model of it in the Grand Palace! Notice the tiles on the roof are of 3 different colours? Blue symbolises Royalty, Yello symbolises Religion and Red symbolises independence =) P and I inside the grounds of the Grand Palace. Both male and female have to be appropriately dressed and for foreigners fret not, by depositing your passport at the counter, you get to rent the garbs from them FOC =) Gloriously beautiful pagoda on the right, in temples, pagodas are also used to house the urns of the dead for those families who can afford. Each pagoda can house up to four families, however all the pagodas in the temple grounds have been fully taken up already. The Emerald Buddha is one of the most prominent attraction in the Grand Palace. Centuries ago, a monk from a village found a plaster figurine and decided to pry it open. Upon doing so, revealed this gleaming jade Buddha which was immediately placed in the temple. Over the years, the Jade Buddha have been embroiled in battles and survived several decades in India.
